If the Rockies want to trade closer Brian Fuentes, it will not be possible for them to do it before the September 1 deadline for setting postseason rosters.
The Rockies placed Fuentes on waivers Monday, but the pitcher went on the bereavement list on Tuesday, effectively canceling the waivers. Fuentes is not eligible to come off the bereavement list until Friday. If the Rockies again placed him on waivers then, he would not clear until after the Sunday deadline for postseason rosters.
MLBTradeRumors.com notes that Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post is reporting that Willy T will most likely clear waivers:
Taveras is eligible to clear Thursday and might since Boston is heading in another direction for an outfielder and Washington, which likes Taveras, will not add payroll.
Additionally, Renck reports the following:
Ryan Spilborghs is making steady progress on his rehab assignment and will be activated when major-league rosters expand to 40 on Sept. 1, if not sooner.
